This 25-room Victorian-era mansion looks like it’s straight out of a classic horror film —not only was it built on a hill right next to a graveyard, but it also features a looming tower complete with pointy windows and spires. Several spirits are said to linger within: the original owners, Mary and Frank Henderson, who built the home in 1895; a Spanish-American war veteran who was fond of the home; and a little girl who fell off a scaffolding and broke her neck. Aspen may be known for its powder-white snow, but one of its most beloved and historic hotels has a slightly darker backstory. In 1936, the ten-year-old son of a family staying in room 310 drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool—and his shivering, wet ghost has been seen wandering the hotel ever since. Known as “Water Boy”, he leaves a trail of wet footprints everywhere he goes; several employees even refuse to work on the hotel’s third floor. When I was done, that motherf—er turned back on.” And it’s not just baseball players: many guests—including actor Joey Lawrence and Meghan Thee Stallion—have reported strange experiences in the hotel. Local lore says that the land the hotel was built on in 1893 may have once been burial grounds.
