Minion Dont Worry About Getting Older You Still Get To Do Stupid Things Only Slower Shirt
Last night, meanwhile, the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibition saw contemporary dandies take over the Met steps in style. Amongst many fine suiting moments, the co-chairs such as Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams all put their stamp on classic evening tuxedos or zoot suits. Complete with luxurious brooches and jewels? They were super fine, indeed. The Met Gala theme is an important one. It dictates the dress code (which, this year, was Tailored for You), the decor, and most importantly, the larger purpose of the night itself. The gala is, yes, a major star-studded fundraising event, but its importance goes beyond dollars raised and social media impressions made. It’s a grand display of art as fashion and fashion as art, showing how both forms comprise and define our cultural fabric.Minion Dont Worry About Getting Older You Still Get To Do Stupid Things Only Slower Shirt
Each theme is chosen with the utmost consideration, asking: What story does this tell? What history does it teach? In 2018, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” showcased hundreds of holy items from the Vatican. A few years earlier, “China: Through the Looking Glass” celebrated China’s influence on Western and Eastern design, while May 2019 explored “Camp” and its exaggerated artifice. Below, we’ve charted out each year’s Met Gala theme dating back to 1995, the first year Anna Wintour became a chair of the event. The latest Met Gala was a celebration of the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It was organized by head curator Andrew Bolton with guest curator Monica Miller, professor and chair of Africana Studies at Barnard College and Columbia University and author of the prizewinning 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Bolton referred to the 2022 death of legendary Black dandy and longtime Vogue editor André Leon Talley as ““the catalyst for the show,” and several guests paid tribute to Talley with looks that explored the finer points of suiting and tailoring (all too apropos, given that the exhibition was the first since 2003 to focus exclusively on menswear).
